Hypertension

Lesson 3 - High Risk Factors

Back to Hypertension Channel

What it all comes down to

So there you have it — myths dispelled and information given — some people are more susceptible to "the silent killer" than others. However, one certain truth should stick in your head over all else — NO ONE is immune to the possibility of hypertension. There is no vaccine to prevent it, there is no drug that can cure it, and there is no promise that if you make the correct choices in your diet and exercise regimens that you can avoid it. However, you CAN stay informed about your cardiovascular health, which gives you the opportunity to try your best at preventing the development of hypertension. Furthermore, should you be diagnosed with this condition, there ARE simple and effective ways to control it. Of course, at this point you're half way through Hypertension 101, which means you already knew that!

Assignment #2
You must have known this part was coming! All set to take that quiz again and see just how well you're doing at this learning thing? Well, here you go...

Assignment #3
If you completed Lesson 2's assignments, then you know your own blood pressure reading by now. Here's your chance to check up on those important people in your life. Whether it's a grandparent, parent, sibling, cousin, neighbor or friend, make sure the people you care about go to have their pressure checked. From this lesson, you may be concerned about certain individuals who fall into one or more of these high-risk groups. Tell them how very important it is to keep up on their cardiovascular health, and that having your blood pressure taken is quick, easy, and painless — bet that sounds familiar! Do they have e-mail? Remind them to have their blood pressure tested by sending them this handy savvyHEALTH postcard!

Coming Up: Lesson 4—Decisions, Decisions: Diet and Exercise Regimens

We've talked a lot about diet and exercise as methods of prevention or control of hypertension. In lesson 4, we will explore some details of those regimens, as well as some of the medication doctors prescribe to keep you and your heart up to speed. See you there!
